In this country good Zenit E's can be found really cheap at car boot sales, I guess Garage sales in the US. My current Helios was on another dealers stall out of interest I asked the price, he picked it up and pressed teh aperture pin, then said a price£40 or £50 then said oh it's got a sticky aperture £5, actually it's fine A dealer who has a stall (and a shop as well as onine store) had a Praktina FX and Biotar on his web site, I'd seen it at a previous fair but by then had checked out typical copleted sales prices so knew it was a bargain, So at the camera fair I go to Helios lenses are often f50-£60 and many aren't in the best condition. The reality was I had a really nice Praktina with a Tessar, wanted a Helios 44 for a project but they are getting expensive dealers are buying cheap Zenit Es then selling the lenses for far more than the complete camears, bodies get scrapped. It does not store any personal data.Th early lenses for Praktinas are pre-set, my two lenses are semi-auto, you pre-cock the lens which opens to full aperture then it stops down automatically on the first pressure of the shutter release which works well. Gone is the confusing preset aperture control, unreliable M42 screw mount and its wobbly body. Our goal was to bring out the best in this lens but addressing the mechanical quirks and limitations of the original body that make it unsuitable for professional, high pressure work environments where everything must perform at 100%.īy creating a new housing for this much loved lens, with improved its usability for video production considerably. Helios 44-2 58mm T2.1 (F2) is a legendary lens, but it’s about to get even better! Our goal was to make these beautiful optics capable of handling even the most demanding filming environments, and with MKII, we finally achieved this goal! Combined with an internal focus design that no longer limits the clip-on Matt Box weight, these lenses are now an absolute joy to use, which is what MKII rehousing is all about. The result is a very reliable, rugged focus system that feels like a CAM-driven focus ring, even on lenses with weighty optical blocks such as Helios 40-2 and Tair-11A. With MKII, we started from scratch! Every element of mechanics and MKI body was changed to achieve the next level of performance, precision, and reliability! The new design now has the universal position of gears across the set, an easily shimmable PL / EF mount system (with more mount options to come), T-stop markings, Reverse Direction Focus Scale, a 15 aperture blade iris for every lens and much more!Īt the heart of it all, we now have what we call a “hybrid focus system”, which is a combination of a new & refined helicoid combined with technology generally found in CAM-driven focus systems.
